President of Stop Child Executions, Nazanin Afshin-Jam spoke last week in the Houses of Parliament in London about the situation of women’s rights and child executions. She used the story of Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi as a case study to show the legal discrimination imposed on women in Iran and highlitghted Iran’s violation of the International Covenent on Civil and Political Rights and the Charter of the Rights of the Child to which it is state party; as well as the misinterpretation of Sharia law used in Iran’s penal code to justify child executions.
