A 21 year old man was hanged in Northern Iran for an alleged murder he committed at the age of 17- Despite ratifying the UN Convention for the Child’s Rights, Iranian authorities continue execution of juvenile offenders.
Iran Human Rights, March 7, 2014: The local news website Bloghnews reported last week about the execution of a 21 year old boy for an alleged murder committed at the age of 17. According to this report the boy who was identified as Mehras Rezaei was convicted of murdering his cousin Ramin four years ago. He was sentenced to “qisas” (retribution by kind). The report says that the grandfather of both the boys conducted the execution in a prison in northern Iran.
Iran Human Rights (IHR) has now through an independent source confirmed the execution of Mehras ad the fact that he was 17 year old at the time of committing the alleged offence.
Iran is one of the few countries in the world which still issues practices death penalty for juvenile offender
